Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Groups
Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people are often the victims of hate crime which can extend from verbal abuse and bullying to more serious harassment and physical violence.
Figures from the Metropolitan Police for the twelve months leading up to June 2007 show that there were 1,174 reported homophobic crimes in London . However, research has shown that homophobic and transphobic crimes are vastly under reported. One study found that less than 1 in 5 homophobic incidents is reported to the police*.
Voluntary organisations play a key role in promoting community safety amongst LGBT communities. Below we have signposted some useful resources and key organisations working to safeguard LGBT people.
