(Ex)-Offenders

With the prison population reaching all time highs and an estimated one fifth of all working age population having a previous conviction, work with current and ex offenders is vitally important for building safer communities and reducing crime.

Many factors are involved in determining the likelihood of a person reoffending but current estimates suggest that 18% of all crime is committed by ex-prisoners.

Each month an estimated 1,200 prisoners (2005) are released back into the London Region and many will seek the support of voluntary sector agencies in facing various challenges to their successful reintegration.

The introduction of the National Offender Management Service (NOMS) also means that many voluntary sector agencies are now responsible for delivering services to ex offenders.

The information provided below is designed to help all those working to reduce re-offending.
